After posting an 11-2 mark in non-conference play, the Florida basketball team starts its quest for an SEC Regular Season crown on Wednesday night against SEC East rival South Carolina. Tip-off between the Gators and Gamecocks at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Coverage of the game will be provided by CSS and Cox Sports with ESPN3 also streaming the game live.

No. 10 Florida survived a challenge from pesky Richmond on Saturday afternoon, pulling away from the Spiders down the stretch for a 67-58 victory at the O’Dome. Michael Frazier keyed the Gators late surge, finishing with a team-high 18 points. Three other Gators were in double figures, led by Patric Young who contributed 15 points while also grabbing six rebounds.
For the year, Frazier is averaging 11.9 points per contest, trailing only Casey Prather (17.3 ppg) who also leads the club in field goal percentage (.610). Dorian Finney-Smith has been vital on the boards for Florida, averaging 7.7 rebounds per game while the Gators are outrebounding opponents 37.4-30.5 this season.

South Carolina dropped in-state opponent South Carolina State, 82-75, in Columbia last Friday night to complete out-of-conference play with a 7-6 mark. The Gamecocks are currently on a four-game win streak and have won five of their last six contests dating back to a win over St. Mary’s (Ca.) at the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic on Dec. 22.

Brenton Williams paced USC with 19 points against the Bulldogs and is averaging 11.2 points per game in 2013-14. Tyrone Johnson added 17 in the win and leads the Cocks with an 11.7 ppg mark.
